Why Valentine's Day is worth celebrating

Why Valentine's Day is worth celebrating

Full disclosure: I don't really do Valentine's Day. Not because I am too cool to buy into a commercialised so-called celebration of love but because it's my daughter's birthday and so the day will always belong to her.
As I prepare for Elena's 16th birthday - how did we get here so fast? - I started thinking about the day itself and of all the worthwhile reasons and ways we can show a little bit of love to those we care about the most.

Valentine's Day needn't be an expensive or cheesy pursuit - sometimes the smallest of gestures that show someone you thought about them are the best. It's a great excuse to get together with friends, spoil your other half or do some fun things with your kids or your pets! Who you shower with love is up to you.

On the other hand, why not take the opportunity to put yourself first for a change? What treats and self-care mean is entirely personal - a long soak in the bath with a glass of wine and a boxset usually does it for me - although I'll never say no to everyday luxuries such as flowers, scented candles, skincare treats or a new piece of jewellery.

The main thing is that you enjoy Valentine's Day no matter what you do or who you spend it with my love!
