The most important things for me when the sun comes out are comfort and speed. You should aim to design your outdoor space (however big or small) in such a way that it can be used at short notice.
Weather resistant furniture
This would be my starting point. There are some great options out there that look fabulous and are very durable. Ideally, you'll want to avoid furniture that needs complex assembly and a lick of paint every time you want to use it.
Rattan and wicker effect outdoor sofas and dining have a contemporary look and require little more than a wipe down with a microfibre cloth before when the sun comes out. Their laidback style instantly makes the space feel more sociable. Extra cushions add personality and comfort.
If you're short on space floor cushions and outdoor pouffes set around a low table are a flexible and charming option.
Plan a colour scheme and soft furnishings
Cushions, blankets, throws and rugs absolutely belong outside. Choose machine washable fabrics and opt for a tonal colour palette that complements your home decor. Add the odd pop of colour for a chic and unified look.
Define your outdoor space with the use of outdoor rugs. Jute rugs work really well inside and out but there is a vast array of outdoor rugs to suit your needs.
Mood lighting in the form of festoon lights, fairy lights and candle lit lanterns give outdoor spaces a warm and welcoming feeling.
There’s nothing I like more on a summer’s evening that a chilled glass of wine and a spot of al fresco dining. Life’s about simple pleasures, isn’t it?
You don’t have to compromise on style or choose plastic tableware to enjoy food and drink outdoors. Mix enamelware and ceramics and wooden boards for a chic effect.
Good storage and organisation
Store all your garden equipment and decor accessories all in one place to avoid scrambling around looking for the things you need when the sun comes out!
The wow factor
Finally, why not have a go at creating fun features like an outdoor cinema or a bar area?
